Lab mix-up delays release of Florida’s COVID-19 cases, death numbers

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Health Department said a mix-up by a private lab has caused them to delay the Saturday release of the state’s coronavirus numbers.

Officials said the DOH received approximately 400,000 previously-reported COVID-19 test results from Helix Laboratory, which is a private lab that is not affiliated with the state of Florida.

Because of an automatic reporting system, technicians now need to remove hundreds of thousands of duplicate results, officials said.

Officials said state epidemiologists are currently working to correct the data, which will take a day to finish.

Because of this, the state announced Saturday that the state’s daily reports will resume Sunday.
