Lack of Trump endorsement gets Ted Cruz booed off RNC stage

CLEVELAND — Boos and audible anger filled the convention hall in Cleveland as one-time presidential candidate Ted Cruz finished his prime-time speech to Republican activists.

The jeers rained down after the Texas senator refused to endorse Trump -- now the official GOP presidential nominee -- in his address.

Cruz did say Trump’s name, once and only to congratulate him on clutching the Republican presidential nomination.

Cruz finished second to Trump in the delegate count and the two were bitter rivals during the primary campaign.

At one point, Cruz's campaign used a picture of Melania Trump taken during a photo shoot for GQ Magazine and Donald Trump took to Twitter, threatening Cruz that he would “spill the beans on your wife.”

In turn, Cruz lashed out at Trump after the later tweeted an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz.

Ted Cruz called Trump a “sniveling coward,” among other things.

During his speech Wednesday, Cruz told supporters to vote with their conscience -- and not to stay home for the general election in November.

“Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the constitution,” he said.

The boos stopped once Trump entered the convention hall.

For security reasons, Cruz’s wife, Heidi, was rushed out of the arena after the speech.
