LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County student who ran to become his high school’s first male homecoming queen didn’t get the title.
But Dillon Gleeson from East Ridge High School in Clermont was all smiles while standing with the rest of the homecoming court at Friday night’s football game.
He was the only male on a list of 10 students running for the title.
Despite the loss, Gleeson said he hopes this can inspire people to be confident.
“I just wanted to make sure that anybody in this world felt like what society expects for them to do isn’t what they have to do,” he said.
Some parents and teachers were upset with the school for allowing males to run for homecoming queen.
Gleeson said he still got a lot of support from friends, family and fellow students.
