Lake County residents voice concerns about proposed traditional housing project

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A local nonprofit group is looking to build transitional housing for families in need in Lake County.

However, people who live nearby are concerned it doesn’t fit in with their community and could have a big impact on the environment in that area.

The property is located on Bay Lake Road just south of Mascotte.

Residents said they feel their way of life and the environment are being threatened by new plans to build transitional housing on a 10-acre piece of property across the street.

The move requires rezoning the 10 acres from agriculture to a community facility district for temporary housing.

Neighbors said that many people staying about six months at a time isn’t considered that temporary, and fear it could impact water.
