Lake County ‘conspiracy theorist’ charged for harassing Sandy Hook victim’s family, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A man who doesn’t believe the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre ever happened is being charged for allegedly targeting the family of one of the victims for almost eight years, according to detectives.

Wolfgang Halbig, 73, is facing charges for allegedly possessing the personal information that belonged to Leonard Pozner, the father of Noah Pozner, one of the Sandy Hook victims.

Detectives said Halbig blasted out Leonard Pozner’s personal information, including his Social Security number, to hundreds of people. Pozner came to Lake County to report the incident to deputies.

“(Halbig) has been harassing him, so it just got to the point where, he committed a crime,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Fred Jones said.

Deputies said they believe Halbig targeted Pozner because he lost his son during the massacre.

The arrest report describes Halbig as a “conspiracy theorist,” and that he believes Sandy Hook was a hoax, alleging the children involved were crisis actors.

Deputies said Halbig exposed Pozner’s information to show that Pozner was using a “deceased woman’s social security number illegally.” That was investigated, and found to be untrue.

Halbig bonded out on Monday. He would not return requests for comments.

Deputies said they are looking into other possible cases in which the suspect is accused of targeting others.
