TAVARES, Fla. — The Lake County Historical Society will honor a Central Florida trailblazer.
The society is set to unveil a statue of Mary McLeod Bethune.
Bethune was the founder of Bethune-Cookman University and fought for African American women’s rights and education.
The new statue will go on display at the Lake County History Museum on West Main Street in Tavares.
Channel 9 will have a crew at the event and will provide updates on Eyewitness News.
