Watch: Lake Mary teen dies in fiery crash on I-4, troopers say.

LAKE MARY, Fla. — A Lake Mary teenager is dead after his car crashed into a tree and burst into flames, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Brandon Thai, 17, was driving a Nissan east on Interstate 4 near the County Road 46-A exit around 11:11 p.m. when the car swerved off the interstate and crashed into a tree.

A Seminole County deputy who was driving in the opposite direction on I-4 at the time tried to rescue the teen from the crash, pulling him from the vehicle.

Despite the deputy’s efforts, Thai died at the scene, troopers said.

Thai was wearing a seat belt, the crash report states.

Troopers are still investigating what caused Thai's car to leave the road.

Thai was a student at Lake Mary High School. Seminole County Public Schools released the following statement:

"There will be a moment of silence held tomorrow morning at the school and grief counselors will be available. Grief Counselors will stay at the school as long as needed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we wish to respect their privacy during this difficult time."
