KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Osceola County officials have voted against a proposal that would have set one of the highest minimum wages for county contracts in the state.
The county's Democratic commissioners joined with the lone Republican to defeat two different ordinances that were up for consideration at Monday's meeting in Kissimmee.
One of the ordinances would have required a wage of $11.66 an hour for county contracts, or $13.66 without health care. The other would have required a rate of $10.16 an hour with health care or $11.66 without it.
The commissioners said the costs and potential unintended consequences of the ordinance would have been too unclear to move forward with right now. The board did agree to further study of potential incentives.
Florida's minimum wage is currently $8.05.
