Local animal shelters bracing for financial crunches amid coronavirus

Animal shelters in Central Florida are preparing in case the coronavirus pandemic leads to more challenges, such as having to close their doors, or having more people surrendering their pets.

The Pet Alliance and other shelters are still open, but the concern is if they do have to close, they would need to find foster homes for about 260 cats and dogs.

Orlando city officials’ plea: Flush only toilet paper

The shelter said it already has some homes lined up and it’s not calling for new foster volunteers yet, but it’s also getting ready in case financial problems force people to give up their animals.

The Pet Alliance keeps a stock of donated food for people who need help feeding their pets.
