ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Former world champion boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho didn't pull any punches at a child abuse hearing on Tuesday.
Orange County deputies arrested Camacho in April after the former professional boxer was accused of throwing his 12-year-old son to the ground and stomping on him at his ex-wife's house.
During the hearing, the judge repeatedly scolded Camacho and his ex-wife, Amy Comacho, after she insulted him and he flipped her an obscene gesture. The two have been divorced for 10 years.
Comacho’s attorney said the bitterness has everything to do with the child abuse case, but Comacho said it has to do with money.
Prosecutors wanted the judge to revoke Camacho's bond for repeatedly trying to contact his now 13-year-old son. However, the judge did not revoke Camacho's bond. He did order the former champ not to contact the son he's accused of beating.
During the hearing, Camacho jumped up in court when his son, Christian, testified that his mother grabbed a knife for protection after Camacho had beaten his younger brother.
“Stay calm, please,” said Judge Marc Lubet.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” said Comacho.
Camacho also acted up after his son insulted him.
“What a son,” Comacho said.
“Mr. Camacho,” Lubet scolded.
“I love him,” said Comacho.
“Mr. Camacho, quiet, please,” Lubet said.
Camacho's 13-year-old son told investigators Camacho stomped on him and tried to punch him, but the defense said his story is questionable.
Camacho said his ex-wife stole thousands from him, and that's what the case is really about.
“I did not take anything from him,” said Amy Comacho.
“Ms. Camacho. Ms. Camacho, stop. We're not here to try this case today,” said Lubet.
Comacho left his child abuse hearing in true flamboyant form, with dramatic complaints about how his ex-wife is living the good life thanks to him. He even went as far as calling her a crook.
After court, Camacho's ex-wife called him an animal, and he called her a thief.
Lately, the former champ has performed in a Spanish “Dancing With the Stars,” and he promotes his son, Hector "Machito" Camacho, who is now a boxer.
Camacho's child abuse trial is set for September.
Amy Camacho said her ex-husband roughed her up when they were married. He also served probation for breaking into a Mississippi computer store and did jail time for possession of Ecstasy.
Camacho won several world titles in the 1980s, including super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight titles. His last title fight was against Oscar de la Hoya in 1997, which Camacho lost by unanimous decision.
He has also fought other high-profile boxers, including Felix Trinidad and Sugar Ray Leonard.
