MAITLAND, Fla. — The Maitland City Council has replaced its former vice mayor, who resigned days after WFTV broke a story that his name was found on the client list of a suspected Orange County brothel and that he was arrested on DUI charges in Tampa.
After several hours of discussion the group chose Jeff Flowers, a former Maitland City Council member and head of Performing Arts of Maitland.
On Monday, Maitland Mayor Howard Schieferdecker said he's ready to move on following the alleged scandal.
"Since (Bonus) resigned, things have calmed down," Schieferdecker said. "The city's getting back to doing normal business, and the people are all very qualified on (the list of candidates)."
The council had a list of five candidates to choose from. Four of those on the list have served on the council before.
The list included former council member and ex-mayor Robert Breaux, along with current planning and zoning commission chair Dale McDonald. Former council members Bob Miller and Jim Panico were also on the list.
Flowers, who was sworn in immediately after being selected, will hold the seat until the March election, when the public will chose a permanent replacement.
