Man shot while breaking up fight at Cocoa apartment complex, police say

COCOA, Fla. — A 26-year-old man remains in stable condition Wednesday after being shot at Village Green Apartments on Dixon Boulevard in Cocoa, police said.

Dispatchers started receiving numerous 911 calls from residents at the apartment complex just after 7:30 p.m., the Cocoa Police Department said.

Police said the 26-year-old man, whose identity isn't being released, tried to break up a fight between another man and woman. The victim tried to help the woman who was being hit by another man when he was shot in the back, police said.

The man and woman then drove away in a silver 4-door car, police said.

Detectives released an image of the woman they want to question about the fight.

No other information was immediately released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS. A $1,000 reward has been offered for the information.
