ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County deputy has been suspended after he was arrested on charges he fled authorities during a traffic stop.
Authorities said they tried to pull over 27-year-old Aaron Larkin for an expired tag and for not wearing a seat belt, but deputies say he sped off at the intersection of Good Homes Road and West Colonial Drive Sunday night.
The patrol deputy's report said he broke off pursuit once Larkin sped off, but the deputy followed up on the tag number and went to an address associated with it. When he arrived, he identified Larkin as the one who had been driving.
Larkin has since been stripped of his law enforcement duties and is not getting paid while his case goes through the criminal justice system and the Orange County Sheriff's Office Professional Standards Department's investigation.
He's facing felony charges of fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer.
The report does not indicate when the patrol officer realized Larkin was a fellow deputy, but the Sheriff's Office said that's irrelevant.
