ORLANDO, Fla. — A traffic stop led to a shooting Monday morning, involving a Florida Highway Patrol trooper. Investigator said the gunfire erupted after the trooper tried to stop an alleged drunken driver, who also drove away from Orlando police.
Police said early Monday morning, officers responded to a call about a white pickup truck driving recklessly in the Plantation Garden apartment complex on Lake Underhill Road.
Officers said they saw David Bachelor, 39, driving his truck out of the complex.
Police said they pulled him over and asked him to get out of the truck. Bachelor then allegedly assaulted the Orlando officer. Bachelor was shocked twice with a Taser, but was able to escape and jump into his truck and drive off, police said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said it located Bachelor a short time later at his home, where they tried to arrest him. However, Bachelor then got into an altercation with a trooper.
FHP shocked Bachelor with a Taser two more times, and then tried to stop him from entering his home. FHP said that is when Bachelor slammed one trooper's arm in the door several times. The trooper then shot through the door, but no one was hit.
There were at least seven bullet holes in the front door of the home.
The trooper suffered injuries to his arm.
Bachelor was arrested. He suffered minor injuries.
