OCALA, Fla. — A 28-year-old man is dead after losing control of his vehicle a short time after leading Ocala police on a high-speed chase.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Vincent O'Neal Foster was killed late Monday after he rounded a curve, taking out a phone box and utility pole before crashing into a tree.
Authorities said an Ocala police officer had been following Foster after he was spotted running stop signs and driving fast.
Police said the officer stopped pursuing the 2000 Dodge Neon when it left the city's jurisdiction.
Troopers said Foster wasn't wearing a seat belt.
