TAVARES, Fla.,None — A central Florida man was home in time for
Thanksgiving after meeting a judge's challenge to lose weight for
an early release from jail.
Lake County Judge Donna Miller set 37-year-old George McCovery
free on Monday after 20 days in jail.
McCovery was sentenced earlier this month to 29 days for driving
with a suspended license. But according to the Orlando Sentinel
(http://thesent.nl/te8nse), Miller promised the 345-pound,
hypertensive man that she would shrink his stay by one day for
every pound he lost while in custody.
As it turned out, McCovery had actually lost 25 pounds, weighing
in Monday at 320.
McCovery said he lost the weight by limiting his meals to mostly
vegetables.
