DELAND, Fla.,None — A man who told investigators he loves guns has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of a visitor to his central Florida apartment.
A judge issued the order Monday.
Authorities said 23-year-old Derek Dean Young shot 22-year-old Manual Portell Jr. in April. He told investigators the shooting was accidental.
WFTV learned that Young admitted he had been drinking and smoking marijuana when the
shooting happened.
Portell was a bartender and a student at Stetson University.
Young was also convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand theft.
