Man shot while walking to work near downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are investigating a shooting that sent a young man to a local hospital in critical condition.

Channel 9's Kathi Belich learned someone shot Johnny Gurrier while he was walking to work on Jernigan Avenue near downtown Orlando about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Leslu Henry, the victim's brother, said he heard three shots and ran out and saw his brother on the ground wounded.

Henry said his brother wasn't the intended target when he was struck by a bullet on his way to work at KFC.  Henry said he was told the intended target was also carrying a gun and ran away when the shooting happened.

"My brother don't mess with nobody. He goes to work. He don't sell no drugs, nothing like that," said Henry. "So you know what I say, anybody knows something about what happened to Johnny Gurrier, let me know."

Police said there was a car involved in the shooting, but they haven't sorted out all of the details just yet.

"We heard several different versions, but we don't know which one to believe, but the detectives are here working it," said Sgt. Vince Ogburn.

Police are hoping the victim will be able to tell them more about who opened fire on him here this afternoon.
