Marion County woman shoots, kills man because he said his name was Mikey, report shows

OCKLAWAHA, Fla. — A woman in Marion County is charged with second-degree murder after deputies said she killed a man by shooting him in the face after he said his name was “Mikey,” according to a police report.

Marion County deputies said Jennifer Hill killed Michael Hofacker because she was recently robbed by a man named Michael and believed Hofacker was the same person.

According to an arrest report, Hill drove up to Hofacker and a woman walking on South Highway 314 in Ocklawaha.

Deputies said Hill asked Hofacker for his name. And when he replied “Mikey,” she shot him just above the right eye.

Hill then got out of the vehicle and noticed that she had shot someone she didn’t know, deputies said.

Hill told responding deputies that she shot Hofacker because she thought he had a gun.

Detectives said they did not find any evidence Hofacker ever had any weapons.

Hill was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she is held on a $50,000 bond.
