Melbourne homicide victim's daughter arrested after police chase

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Channel 9 has learned new details about a homicide investigation in Melbourne.

Alfred Megathlin, 60, was found dead in his condominium at the Golf View condos on Saturday morning after police received a request to check on him.

"Al was a very nice guy. He'd go hunting a couple times every year up in Georgia. He'd already gone once this year," neighbor Archie Garrett said.

Prior to the discovery, officers arrested Amber Maltese, on unrelated charges. Maltese is the victim's daughter and neighbors said she lived with him at times.

The 37-year-old is accused of leading police on a 30-mile chase through two counties early Saturday morning. She's facing several charges related to the chase, including DUI and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

Maltese, who is being held at the Indian River County Jail, hasn't been named as a suspect in Megathlin's homicide.

"You never expect to hear that someone was murdered across the street," neighbor Joe Fernandez said.

Police haven't said how Megathlin died.
