Missed garbage pickups to take place Saturday before Hurricane Irma, Palm Bay officials say

PALM BAY, Fla. — Several Friday garbage routes missed by Waste Management in Palm Bay will be picked up Saturday morning, the city said.

The city received a series of complaints from residents that their garbage had not been picked up as scheduled, officials said.

"After discovering the missed routes, (Palm Bay) Public Works leadership immediately contacted Waste Management representatives and reported the issue," the city said in a statement. "Though the cause of the error was not immediately apparent, Waste Management was able to confirm the missed service and has agreed to provide Saturday morning collection to the overlooked routes."

Any resident whose garbage was not picked up as scheduled Friday is asked to leave their cart curbside for Saturday morning pickup.

The city urged residents to make sure their cart is secure ahead of Hurricane Irma.

"If you are not serviced by 11 a.m. on Saturday ... due to the closure of the landfill, please secure your garbage container for service after the hurricane," the city's statement said.
