Missing sex offender turns self in

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Registered sex offender Edward White turned himself in to the Orange County Jail Tuesday morning, Orange County investigators said.

On Monday, deputies said they were searching for the convicted rapist who had not been seen since August. His last known address was a home off Semoran Boulevard.

According to investigators, deputies check on sex offenders twice a year, and it was during one of those checks that they discovered White was missing.

White was convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl in the '90s in New York. He is supposed register his address with law enforcement agencies.

Investigators said White has a "chronic issue of failing to register and re-register in Florida as a Sex Offender."

According to sheriff's officials, warrants had been issued for White's arrest for failing to update his driver's license and re-register.

They said both are felonies, which carry a maximum of five years in prison.
