Mount Dora police help children buy Christmas gifts

MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Officers of the Mount Dora Police Department brought some Christmas joy to families Saturday by offering children a day to ‘Shop With a Cop’ for presents.

The program pairs officers with children and provides them $100 to shop for Christmas gifts at Target.

The department received the “Heroes and Helpers” grant for community outreach and used the money to fund the program.

The police department worked with local schools to identify families for the program.

“Fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and local youth is one of our top priorities,” Chief of Police John O’Grady said. “This is a great opportunity to give back to our community in a more personal way.”

About 15 families participated in the event.
