Some patients discharged after climbing net collapses at Brevard teen camp

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Channel 9 has learned 12 people were injured when a climbing net at a Brevard County camp collapsed on Friday.

The accident happened about 1 p.m. at the Teen Missions International camp on Hall Road in Merritt Island.

According to Brevard County Fire Rescue, the group was posing for a photo when the collapse happened.

One of the victims, an adult man, was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Fire Rescue said the 11 others, who were all teenagers, were taken to Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital with minor injuries.

Hospital officials discharged nine of the patients, and said they expect the rest to be discharged soon.
