Neighbors worry bird flu to blame for dozens of ducks found dead in Sanford-area lakes

SANFORD, Fla. — Neighbors in Seminole County are concerned after seeing dozens of dead ducks surround multiple popular lakes.

It’s happening in the Sanford area at Lake Dot, Lake Minnie and a nearby retention pond on an unnamed lake on 17-92. Neighbors said they’re worried it could be bird flu killing the ducks.

Now, Florida Fish and Wildlife is investigating.

There’s no official confirmation on what’s killing them, but someone put a sign up at Lake Dot that reads “Caution, Possible Flu.”

Neighbors said the place used to be surrounded by as many as 50 birds, but over the last week they started collapsing.
