OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A specially trained bloodhound is joining the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office to help deputies locate missing people.
Senior Resource Alliance donated K9 Valor to the agency. The dog will focus on searches involving people with dementia or developmental disabilities such as autism.
Valor completed scent-discrimination training with Scent Evidence K9 and will work with Deputy Luis Paredes-Labrador.
The nonprofit is also providing the Sheriff’s Office with scent evidence kits. The kits can preserve a person’s unique scent for up to 10 years, giving a bloodhound a scent to follow when someone disappears.
The donation is part of Senior Resource Alliance’s Bringing the Lost Home project. The organization said the initiative has provided 11 K9s to Central Florida law enforcement agencies since 2021. Those dogs have collectively located more than 100 people.
Senior Resource Alliance President and CEO Karla Radka and Osceola County Sheriff Christopher Blackmon will formally introduce Valor during an event at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Sheriff’s Office in Kissimmee.
