ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — It's been a little over a month since Florida saw its highest day of new COVID-19 cases — a whopping 15,300 in one day.
Since then, the numbers have been falling, but the positivity rate hasn't changed much.
Before Tropical Storm Isaias skirted the east coast of Florida, several COVID-19 testing sites shut down for about four days, anticipating possible hurricane impacts.
Ever since then, the state has seen testing numbers decline at sites like Camping World Stadium.
“Numbers are a little bit lower than they have been. So, they’ve been trending down. But that’s also the case with the number of positive tests have been trending down over the last several weeks,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said.
Florida had a low of around 2,500 new cases on Monday and around 4,000 on Wednesday. Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino said Wednesdays are better indicators of reality than Mondays.
While the state’s cases and testing continue to decline, our positivity rate has stayed about the same.
On July 12, when Florida hit its highest ever new-case increase with 15,300 positives out of nearly 100,000 test results, the positivity rate was about 15%.
On Wednesday, new cases are down to 4,115 out of about 27,000 test results, but the positivity rate is still about 15%.
