TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A newly released 103-page police report details what happened at the Strozier Library at Florida Statement University when a gunman stormed in and opened fire last year.
Myron May was admittedly a troubled man, accordint to the report.
The 31-year-old attorney apparently suffered from mental illness. His torment was spelled out in videos found inside his home and pages of a meticulously written manifesto.
Documents show May was set on ending the mental anguish he grappled with for months, writing, "What I am about to do, I have a deep regret for."
On Nov. 20 May carried out his plan at his alma mater.
It was just after midnight when May targeted the library where hundreds of students were studying.
Without saying a word, he opened fire on several people.
Three students were wounded, but Farhan "Ronny" Ahmed, of Apopka, was most gravely injured when he was shot three times.
“I knew instantly when I was shot what was happening with my body,” Ahmed told Channel 9.
The first bullet severed his spine, leaving him paralyzed. Another bullet stopped 4 centimeters away from his heart.
The report shows May tried to shoot more students, but his gun was jammed.
One bullet hit a textbook in the packed backpack of central Florida student Jason Derfuss.
As officers cornered and confronted May, he put the gun to his own head then told cops, “I’m gonna make you kill me.”
He aimed and fired at officers who returned fire, fatally wounding him.
In his video message, May asked the families affected for forgiveness.
“I feel sorry for him. He is gone and there is no coming back from that. I am still here,” Ahmed said.
The report said a grand jury in December cleared the officers who fired their weapons during the incident.
The grand jury also lauded the officers and a dispatcher involved as heroes.
