ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County employee was arrested Thursday after deputies said he threatened Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in an email where he said he would kill her with his bare hands if he had to.
Kevin Cunningham, 51, serves as the county's Fiscal and Operation Support Division and Development Services specialist.
The county said his job duties include sending out public notifications.
Deputies said he sent an email to Bondi demanding that she resign and that she committed fraud by accepting bribes from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The email stated: “You need to resign. You have committed fraud accepting bribes from Donald Trump. Your support of him makes you unfit to hold the position of attorney general. Do not ever come back to Orlando. Anderson Cooper was right—your hate and bigotry enables the 49 people to be slaughtered here. If I ever see you in person, I’ll rid the state of a corrupt (expletive) with any means I have, firearms, knives, or my bare hands.”
Cunningham told deputies he had been upset with Bondi’s political positions toward the LGBT community, along with other political figures’ comment about the LGBT community, following the Pulse nightclub shooting.
He went on to tell deputies that Bondi’s speech at the Republican National Convention continued to fuel his anger.
Cunningham owns a firearm, deputies said.
He was charged with written threat to kill or do bodily harm, corruption by harm or threat against a public servant, and possession of Alprazolam.
Cunningham has been an employee with Orange County since 2014.
County officials said they are reviewing the matter and are cooperating with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
They have not decided if he will be placed on paid or unpaid leave as the investigation continues.
