ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man is facing murder charges in the death of an 18-month old baby and the case may be headed to a grand jury.
The baby's mother works for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, but the suspect also has ties to law enforcement.
The suspect, Adam Rosa, is being held in the Osceola County Jail without bond as a courtesy for Orange County, where he's accused of the crime.
A jail spokesperson said Rosa has a relative who works for the Orange County Jail.
Rosa's arrest report said he was booked a week and half ago on an aggravated child abuse charge.
Deputies said he was watching the 18-month-old daughter of his girlfriend of two months when the child was seriously injured and later died.
Deputies said Rosa first said the baby choked on milk, then he claimed she fell down the stairs.
He later admitted he caused the baby to hit her head on the bathtub, authorities said.
Nurses told deputies the child suffered from shaken baby syndrome, head trauma, swelling of the brain and an open wound on the back of her head.

Deputies said they recorded Rosa on an iPhone reenacting the way he said the child was injured falling the down the stairs.
That video stopped, and then deputies started recording again, telling Rosa they didn't believe he was telling the truth.
Orange County court records show last Monday he was arrested on a first-degree murder charge.
In 2011, Rosa was convicted on battery of law enforcement officer and escape.
The State Attorney's Office plans to hand the case over to the grand jury.
The Department of Children and Families is investigating.
It’s not clear in what capacity the child’s mother works for FDLE.
