Orange County property appraiser sues SeaWorld

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 learned Thursday Orange County property appraiser Rick Singh is suing SeaWorld to make the theme park pay more in taxes.

9 Investigates' Christopher Heath contacted Singh's office Thursday morning about the lawsuit and were told the office doesn't do interviews on pending litigation.

Later in the day, Singh put out a news release and a statement on the pending legal case, which centers on the theme park's assessed value.

Singh's office said it should be $192 million, but the county's value adjustment board said it should only be $182 million.

The difference could either save the park or cost the park about $200,000.

In Singh's news release, he said it would be an abdication of his "solemn duty" as property appraiser if he did not take action in the case.

SeaWorld said its property should be assessed at "fair market value," just like every other Orange County property, and that it will pay its taxes accordingly.
