3 UCF football players test positive for COVID-19 after returning to campus for voluntary workouts

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — University of Central Florida athletics officials said three UCF football players tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials said the student athletes are three out of the 60 who recently returned to campus for voluntary workouts. The students who tested positive are now in isolation for two weeks.

Officials said the isolated student-athletes are monitored daily via wellness checks, and receive contactless meal deliveries.

"Our top priority is to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes," said UCF vice president and director of athletics Danny White in a statement. "We will do everything necessary to support the student-athletes under our care on campus. Our plan and protocols are working. We will continue working through our medical processes, as this initial testing phase allows us to respond appropriately."

Officials said people who the positive student-athletes have come in direct contact with in the last two weeks are being traced and notified. The Florida Department of Health is providing additional direction on follow-up for those in close contact.

The university said the student-athletes who tested positive will not participate in any UCF workouts until the quarantine period expires and they are re-tested and test negative.
