ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County commissioners voted Tuesday to begin the process of terminating the condominium associations at Tymber Skan on the Lake and petitioning for a trustee to oversee a potential property sale.
The vote does not mean the county is immediately selling or demolishing the complex. It begins a legal process that could eventually lead to the property’s sale and redevelopment.
Located near South Texas Avenue along Lake Catherine, Tymber Skan has deteriorated over the past 20 years. Only eight of the original 49 buildings remain, and the property has been plagued by unsafe structures, illegal dumping and other hazardous conditions.
Orange County said it has invested more than $3.5 million in stabilization efforts.
“After many years of working to stabilize the community of Tymber Skan and its multiple HOAs, it became necessary to take action to protect the residents,” Mayor Jerry L. Demings said.
The county’s Citizen Resource and Outreach Division will assign each affected household a case manager to connect residents with resources and provide support during the transition.
Demings said the action could ultimately lead to the property’s revitalization and create a safer future for residents.
