Residents receiving relief in this fourth round should watch for a letter in an Undue Medical Debt-branded envelope in the coming days. There is no application process.

“This initiative is changing lives and helping residents focus on their health and build a brighter future for their families,” Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said.

County commissioners approved the partnership with the national nonprofit in August 2024, using American Rescue Plan Act funding. Undue Medical Debt buys qualifying debt in bulk from hospitals, other health care providers and collection agencies at a fraction of its face value.

According to the county, every dollar contributed erases an average of $100 in medical debt.
