Orlando Museum of Art exhibit features Ukraine war photos from local college student

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Rollins College student has a pop-up showcase at the Orlando Museum of Art.

The “Ukraine’s Greatest Generation: Courage in the midst of Chaos” exhibit highlights how Ukraine soldiers and civilians were affected by Russian aggression in 2022.

Last summer, Benjamin Mack-Jackson, 20, documented the war in Ukraine and gathered stories through his photos.

Now, his work is on display at the Orlando museum.

Mack-Jackson is currently a junior studying International Relations at Rollins in Winter Park.

He is also a visual storyteller and founder of the World War II Veterans History Project nonprofit, where he interviewed over 100 veterans.

Mack-Jackson said he hoped that by preserving the history and memories of those in war, he could inspire future generations to work toward peace.

“It’s one thing to be a college student studying history. It’s another thing to see it first-hand,” Mack-Jackson said. “Now, I’ve been confronted with the reality of war and, in turn, hope to be a better historian and storyteller. It was undoubtedly the most transformational trip of my entire life.”
