Orlando Union Rescue Mission’s Thanksgiving dinner undergoes changes due to COVID-19

For more than 50 years, the Orlando Union Rescue Mission has been feeding hundreds of people for Thanksgiving.

But like many traditions, there are changes this year meant to protect people from the coronavirus.

“With all the concerns and restrictions resulting from the pandemic, it changes our operations, especially for things that we do for the public,” said Freddy Clayton with Orlando Union Rescue Mission.

This year, instead of the normal banquet-style setting, meals were individually packed and handed out for those who walked up.

In just a few hours, more than a thousand meals were handed out.
