ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Eight cats died and several other pets were rescued after a house fire broke out Thursday morning on Lake Jessamine Drive in Orange County.
Orange County Fire Rescue firefighters responded to the active fire at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Crews and Orange County Animal Services officers arrived on the scene to find two dogs and between 25 and 30 cats inside the home.
Five of the surviving cats were surrendered by the residents to Orange County Animal Services after being found in bad condition. The residents will take the remaining cats to receive veterinary care.
Both dogs inside the home were uninjured. According to Orange County Fire Rescue, all of the animals will be kept at a secure location selected by the resident.
Information on whether anyone was injured in the fire was not immediately available. The cause of the fire has not been reported.
