Man previously accused of shooting at girlfriend shot by deputies after kidnapping girlfriend at gunpoint, sheriff says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man out of jail on bond after being accused of shooting at his girlfriend was shot by Orange County deputies Friday after deputies said he forced his girlfriend to drive him to a gas station at gunpoint.

Law enforcement initially responded to the area near North Econlockhatchee Trail between East Colonial Drive and State Road 417 around 7:30 a.m. on a domestic violence call.

According to Sheriff John Mina, officials said 19-year-old Bryce Weir forced his girlfriend at gunpoint to drive him to a 7-Eleven in the area for unknown reasons. The woman was eventually able to escape the vehicle and call 911.

Weir was shot in the leg and was placed in custody after officials said he produced a handgun and fired at deputies, according to officials.

Officials said they had a prior history with Weir, saying he allegedly shot at his girlfriend and another woman and was arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated battery and criminal mischief.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will continue to investigate the shooting.

Deputies said the girlfriend was not injured in the kidnapping.

A deputy was bitten on the leg by a dog during the arrest and suffered minor injuries.

Weir is facing several charges in connection with the incident, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and armed kidnapping.
