Rapid COVID-19 testing coming to UCF

Rapid COVID-19 testing will be available on the University of Central Florida campus in the next few weeks.

According to a university spokesperson, the school will use them to either randomly test students or target certain groups. The goal is to detect any possible outbreaks, even among asymptomatic people.

The university has partnered with a lab in Winter Springs to currently test students and staff at Garage A. Results typically come back in one to three days and you don’t have to have symptoms to get tested.

In the White House’s report to all governors, officials said universities should increase testing and make sure results come back quickly, and to come up with a plan to detect asymptomatic people so cases don’t get out of control.

Two students have been suspended because of COVID-19 violations, one of whom didn’t isolate after testing positive for COVID-19 and the other hosted large parties off-campus, according to the university.

In total, about 300 UCF students and staff have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning to campus at the beginning of August.
