KEY WEST, Fla. — The United States Coast Guard has found four boaters who were reported missing during a snorkeling trip in Key West.
The Coast Guard said in a news release Wednesday that the boaters left Banana Bay Resort in a 25-foot boat on Tuesday for a snorkeling trip about six miles north of Key West.
A concerned family member contacted the Coast Guard Tuesday evening when they didn't return as scheduled by 4 p.m.
Missing were 48-year-old David Thompson, 28-year-old Adam Kelley, 15-year-old Joshua Thompson, who are all from Orlando, and 11-year-old Evan Thompson, who lives in Gainesville but is a cousin of the family.
The Coast Guard sent boat and helicopter crews to search for the missing boaters. Boat crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are also assisting in the search.
By 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Cost Guard said they found a boat with four people on board, and later confirmed it was the missing family.
