Dental records needed to ID wrong-way driver who died in Osceola County crash

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers said a wrong-way driver was killed and two other victims are in the hospital after a crash Tuesday morning on U.S. 192 in Osceola County.

Troopers believe the wrong-way driver is a 69-year-old man from Palm Bay but they will have to use dental records to make a positive ID.

Drivers trying to head east on U.S. 192 near Hibiscus Road around 4 a.m. could only sit and watch for hours as troopers responded to the fatal crash.

Dan Chick lives up the street and had to cancel an appointment after waking up and seeing the road closed.

“There's like 20 cars and a tractor-trailer," Chick said.

Troopers said the driver of a 2004 Dodge pickup was heading westbound in the eastbound lane.

The driver hit a 2017 GMC pickup head-on, which flipped his truck and caused it to catch fire.

Joe Hernendez, 31, of Texas and Bruce Bosley, 38, of Louisiana were in the other truck and rushed to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Chick said after five years of living in the area, he's seen a fair share of crashes but nothing like this.

Troopers said the other two victims have serious injuries.
