KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Kissimmee Police Department is remembering Sgt. Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter, who died in the line of duty four years ago on Wednesday.
“Today is a difficult day for our agency,” the Kissimmee Police Department tweeted. “It was four years ago that two of our own were shot in the line of duty. Officer Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard died as heroes to our community and will never be forgotten.”
In honor of both men, the Kissimmee Police Department dedicated their assigned vehicles to remember them. Howard’s ID was 589. When the sergeant assigned to his memorial vehicle began her day, the starting mileage was 58,900, Police Chief Jeff O’Dell tweeted.
“Sam is watching over us!” he wrote.

Outpouring of support came from organizations in and around Kissimmee.

“Four years ago, Officer Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard lost their lives in the line of duty,” the city tweeted. “Their bravery and commitment to our community will never be forgotten.”
