Task force members felt left out over discussions to replace SROs at Osceola County charter schools

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — What was supposed to be a task force meeting to present recommendations about school resource officers turned into a heated discussion about a plan to remove school resource officers from Osceola County charter schools.

The SRO Citizens Advisory Task Force members said they felt like they were left out of important discussions.

A report from the task force was opposed to using the guardian program to replace SROs. They said a lack of training has always been one of the reasons districts don’t use them.

But at the meeting last night, after the members had their say about being left out of the original discussion, the council agreed to add the idea to their final report.

Officials said there will be a workshop to discuss the idea on May 6, and the school board then will make a decision.
