Palm Coast mayor steps down, search begins for new mayor

Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland announced she is stepping down to focus on her daughter’s health following complications from a liver transplant.

Holland resigned Tuesday, just six months into her second term.

“Whoever comes in will have some big shoes to fill,” said Interim Mayor Eddie Branquinho. “She was great person. She has the knowledge and she is a great mother.”

There was a motion to make councilman Nick Klufas interim vice mayor, but that was voted down.

To run for mayor in Palm Coast you must either pay a $1,100 fee or collect 500 signatures.

Election day is July 27.

Early voting will be July 17 to July 24.

This special election is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $100,000.
