Parents of student who got detention for hugging raise awareness about bullying

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The parents of a Seminole County eighth-grader are trying to raise awareness about bullying after their child got detention for giving a friend a hug.

Administrators at Jackson Heights Middle School say Bobby and Kathy Fishbough's daughter violated the policy on public displays of affection.

The family has hired Matt Morgan as their attorney.

In a statement, they said the district's rules discourage students from being kind toward one another and they hope to make school systems a more compassionate and loving place for children to spend their days.
