Pedal party buses could soon be coming to Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Pedal buses are taking the U.S. by storm and Daytona Beach could be one of the first cities in central Florida to get one of the 15-passenger human-powered vehicles.

The pedal buses are designed for partying and as Channel 9's Blaine Tolison found, the Limo Cycle business owner believes Daytona will be a good fit for them.

"I'd try it, especially going out to the beach or the football games or something like that, you know," one Daytona resident said.

Steve Tishman wants to bring Limo Cycle to Daytona because he believes the image is changing there in a good way.

"We feel like we're going to be draw, a destination for folks to come from Orlando and the surrounding areas," said Tishman. "Folks who might not normally go to Daytona might go to New Smyrna instead. Now have a reason to go to Daytona Beach."

A total of 15 passengers power the party wagon, which Tishman said is as easy as a 10-speed in fourth gear. There is a driver who steers and brakes, a tour guide who serves the guests and room for coolers and beer.

But turning the Limo Cycle into a rolling bar where alcohol is served along the streets of the tourist district is something that is still up in the air for both Tishman and the city of Daytona Beach.

"The goal here is to bring people out and have a good time in an eco-friendly environment," said Tishman. "If alcohol is ever a part of this equation, it will certainly be somewhere down the road."

If the Limo Cycle is approved Wednesday night, it has one more public hearing to conquer. If all goes as planned, Tishman hopes to have pedal bus on the road by November.

The pedal buses cost $95,000 each. Tishman would like to operate two of them, renting each for $195 an hour.
