GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gainesville police said a major burglary was thwarted when three suspects were caught stealing $27,000 in electronics from Best Buy early Sunday morning.
The burglary attempt was at the Best Buy store on SW Archer Road, police said. Officers went to the store around 3 a.m. after they were alerted to an alarm going off.
Police said they spotted a black male suspect going into the store through a hole in the wall that was made by a sledge hammer. One suspect, 16-year-old William Brookins, was captured at the back of the business, while the two other suspects ran from police into a nearby mobile home park.
According to investigators, approximately $27,000 worth of computers and iPads were stacked up outside the hole made by the suspects.
Officials said a second suspect was located using infrared technology on the police helicopter. That suspect, 22-year-old Breyon Gilbert, was captured by a K-9 and had to be taken a nearby hospital for treatment. Gilbert has been arrested for previous Best Buy burglaries in the Jacksonville area, officials said.
The third suspect was identified as 24-year-old Norris Richardson. Richardson has not been located and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department.
