Police say Cocoa child molestation suspect had child pornography on computer

Cocoa police arrested a man on Friday who they said had child pornography on his computer.

Police said they found images of child pornography on the computer of Barry Vest.

Vest, 52, didn't answer Channel 9's Melonie Holt's questions as he was escorted to jail for the second time in recent weeks.

Cocoa police said Vest was arrested earlier after he was accused of molesting a 15-year-old inside his apartment in March.

According to investigators, Vest found the child by monitoring police scanners. They said Vest knew the boy and a friend had recently walked away from the juvenile facility.

According to police, Vest found the teen and his friend and offered them a place to hide from law enforcement.

"When they got to his apartment he had marijuana and he had alcohol and he would attempt to perform lewd acts on them," said Barbara Matthews, with the Cocoa Police Department.

As police were investigating that case, they noticed Vest's computer and surveillance cameras inside his University Lane apartment. They got a warrant and seized the computer's hard drive.

Police said they found images of 175 children in 125  pornographic photographs.

Holt spoke with some of Vest's neighbors who were relieved that he was back in custody.

"He sits at the pond over there, and he goes over to that development and hangs out with the kids," said resident Lizette Cintron.

Police said they don't believe Vest took any pictures of those children. They think the images on his computers were downloads that were then shared with other people.
Vest is not a registered sex offender.
