Police: St. Cloud officer accidentally shot by fellow officer

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A St. Cloud officer was shot in the hand by a fellow officer Thursday afternoon, Police said.

Officials said the incident happened while the officers were serving a search warrant at a home on Tarpon Street in Kissimmee.

Officer John Nettles said he felt threatened during a drug raid and fired his gun, but he struck Officer Scott Wetherhold's middle finger on his right hand.

According to the search warrant, cops were at the home looking for cocaine and guns.

Police told WFTV they recovered trace amounts of cocaine and guns.

Wetherhold was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but is expected to make a full recovery.

WFTV learned Wetherhold has been an officer for nearly 20 years.

St. Cloud police said they have opened an internal investigation.
