ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — For nine months, an Orange County man was blind because he couldn’t afford cataract surgery, but now he can see again thanks to some help from a community program.
“I have already traveled probably 200 miles on my bicycle already,” said James Clark. “I can see blue skies, I can see clouds.”
It’s been almost a year since the Bithlo resident has laid eyes on anything.
“For about nine months, didn’t know what to do, didn’t know who could help,” Clark said.
He had no healthcare and no way to pay for much-needed cataract surgery.
Florida Hospital and United Global Outreach helped Clark get the care he needed through a new free mobile eye clinic.
“They changed my life. I cannot thank them enough,” he said.
While Clark has his vision completely back in his left eye, he still has one more surgery to go on his right eye, which he’ll get in the coming weeks.
